Legal Intern, Cohesive (Summer 2023 – July)
Location: Croydon office based or Remote, UK
Position Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious law student to join a truly inspirational business during the month of July during the 2023 summer holiday and gain hands-on in-house experience.
Cohesive, a business unit of Bentley Systems, is seeking a talented law student from a recognised UK university, to report directly into Cohesive’s Chief Counsel and be a member of the wider Bentley Systems legal team, comprising of more than 30 lawyers and support staff in nine global locations. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of legal matters across our Cohesive business and gain experience in several key functions that an in-house lawyer typically experiences, which is likely to include drafting exercises, contractual reviews, records keeping and contract management as well as other special projects from time to time. You will assist Cohesive’s Chief Counsel with daily legal tasks and will be available to work full-time during normal office hours, frequently attend meetings on a range of topics as required and be comfortable working to deadlines. You must be willing to build strong relationships and lines of communication with internal teams within the business.
Your Day-to-Day / Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and duties of the successful candidate are likely to include:
- Supporting and working closely with our Chief Counsel for Cohesive on a variety of legal matters and opportunities to work with various other business units within the UK and globally.
- Assist with drafting and reviewing a range of contractual agreements and contractual templates, including Framework Agreements, Software Licensing Agreements, bespoke contracts and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
- Draft and research contractual awareness training for use within the organisation.
- Manage a comprehensive records library of all commercial company agreements.
- Review, evaluate and edit business continuity templates and legal policy documents.
- Assisting with special projects and initiatives, both domestically and internationally.
- Perform substantive legal research relating to emerging legal issues.
- Working together with other members of the global legal team, act as Cohesive legal point of contact for other Bentley departments on matters related to Cohesive.
What You Bring to The Team / Qualifications, Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Currently enrolled (or recent graduate) as a law student, either as an undergraduate or post-graduate, at any recognised UK university.- Be available to work throughout the month of July 2023.
- Experience or a genuine interest to work in an in-house legal team within a fast-paced, deadline driven, collaborative, international environment.
- A demonstratable passion for contract law, engaging in contractual negotiations and promoting contractual awareness.
- Experience/demonstratable awareness of software/IT services frameworks and licensing agreements, engineering experience desirable but not essential.
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Specific experience with IT services, IP, licensing, regulatory compliance, corporate transactions and/or construction agreements would be a plus.
