Hitachi Energy UK Limited is recruiting for a high-calibre qualified legal counsel who will strengthen our legal team by providing legal advice to all business units in the UK and Ireland. You will bring your legal-know how to diverse tasks, and ensure all contractual activities are executed in accordance with the relevant Group directives and instructions as well as local statutory provisions. Reporting to the UK and Ireland General Counsel, the successful candidate will be working on a wide range of contacts which will assist customers and contribute to Hitachi Energy’s mission of accelerating the energy transition, advancing a sustainable energy future for all. The role is home-based and may require domestic and overseas travel on occasions.
Your responsibilities
- Provides expert legal advice over a broad range of issues affecting the business units, especially for tenders and projects under execution within the business units.
- Identifies issues of concern and adverse contractual risks to the relevant business units at the tendering stage and proactively develops effective legal strategies, mitigation actions and practical solutions in support of business activities, whilst ensuring consistent implementation of contract strategy based on Hitachi Energy’s policies and customer requirements.
- Negotiates acceptable contract terms with customers, liaising with all internal stakeholders in the process.
- Leads and presents the legal review for risk reviews, engaging with all internal stakeholders.
- Supports contract managers and project teams during project execution in relation to claims to and from customers and subcontractors.
- Promotes dispute avoidance and manages disputes and litigations liaising, where necessary, with external law firms.
- Ensures excellent corporate governance, supports the implementation of the Code of Ethic and Business Conduct and assists with investigation and resolution of integrity-related issues.
- Supports the General Counsel with ad hoc requests from the business for legal advice.
Your background
- Law degree and proven track record as a fully qualified lawyer in England & Wales with a strong legal background and knowledge.
- A minimum of 4 years of PQE experience relating to construction/engineering projects in the UK and Europe.
- Experienced in contract law, contract drafting, administration, negotiation of agreements, dispute resolution.
- Knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable Government and commercial regulations and practices, working knowledge of FIDIC, NEC3, NEC4 and MF/1.
- Demonstrable negotiating skills and expertise in drafting a wide range of contractual documents.
- Business-minded and solution oriented. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including team spirit as well as the ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability to successfully interface with the Customer when representing Hitachi Energy at significant negotiations, both pre and post contract award.
