About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a lawyer to join a highly motivated legal team! This Legal Counsel role is a brand new, mid-level position (Vice President, D Band) in the Reinsurance Solutions Legal team.
Reinsurance Solutions is a newly created division in the Swiss Re group which diversifies the group's income streams, by developing Swiss Re's risk knowledge and tech platforms/tools and by expanding Swiss Re's fee-based service offerings.
The Legal Counsel role in the Reinsurance Solutions Legal team is a legal partner role to the Reinsurance Solutions division. What are the key responsibilities?
- Provide legal and regulatory advice, guidance and support to Swiss Re's Reinsurance Solutions business
- Review, draft and negotiate contracts and legal documents in the English language, in particular SaaS agreements and similar IT platform/tool terms of access, and related commercial agreements
- Analyse and advise on legal and regulatory matters as they apply to the Reinsurance Solutions' business activities and the development and offering of tech platforms/tools and fee-based service offerings
- Work closely with a diverse group of product owners, marketers, solutions teams and other cross-functional colleagues; foster and maintain strong and positive working relationships with international clients and colleagues
- Facilitate international coordination of legal/regulatory issues and help to maintain and adjust the legal and regulatory framework and processes of Swiss Re in order to meet the legal, regulatory and internal requirements
- Instruct and manage outside counsel (as needed)
- Conduct and/or arrange internal presentations and trainings on legal topics
- Monitor legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas
This role will report to the Head Legal Reinsurance Solutions. The position is based in Zurich or London.
About the Team
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a team of 5 lawyers (including this role) reporting to the Head Legal Reinsurance Solutions. The team works closely with many lawyers across the globe drawn from the wider Legal Reinsurance team to provide legal services to the Reinsurance Solutions division. About You
Qualification and Experience
- Are a fully qualified lawyer (bar exam) with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience, preferably with a law firm or in-house in the (re)insurance or tech industry
- Are knowledgeable in tech and data related regulations with a track record in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
- Have the ability to negotiate and work professionally in English; additional languages are a plus
- Provide high-quality, timely client service that is balanced with a clear focus on protecting the interests and reputation of the firm and adopt a pragmatic, solutions-focused, consultative approach to problem-solving
- Are a strong communicator (written and verbal) with a high integrity and courage to advance the best solution
- Some experience of reinsurance structures and transactional reinsurance wordings may be an advantage, although not a pre-requisite for this role
- You identify and report legal, regulatory and reputational risks, provide professional advice, expertise and guidance, and apply sound judgement beyond the dimensions of laws and regulations
- You possess excellent drafting, negotiation, influencing and legal project management skills with an ability to handle multiple requests
- You have a curiosity and willingness to learn new areas and understand new concepts, enjoy learning from colleagues as well as working independently
- You are a trusted business partner and openly share assumptions, beliefs, values and thought process in reaching conclusions and are self-reflective and collaborative
- You possess excellent drafting, negotiation, influencing and legal project management skills
- You take accountability for progress and/or outcomes, apply a measured appetite for risk, and plan ahead to deliver workable solutions
