Job description
The WRU Group Legal Counsel’s role is to act as the operational lead providing advice to the WRU Group on a broad range of legal issues. This is to include sponsorship agreements, media rights arrangements, competition agreements, match agreements, venue hire arrangements, image rights, property, estate management, employment, litigation, data protection and intellectual property matters).
The Person
- Qualified Solicitor with approximately 10 years PQE
- Commercial experience of working across a broad range of legal matters to include property, intellectual property, data protection and litigation
The Role
- Acting as the primary legal contact on relevant matters across the WRU Group’s work, as directed
- Lead the Legal Affairs team and activities on a day-to-day basis
- Line management the WRU Group Solicitor
- Identify and implement improvements to sustain a high performing Legal Affairs team and function
- Negotiate, draft and complete all necessary legal agreements and other documentation
- Review, draft, complete and implement identified corporate policies and procedures
- Pro-actively review and keep precedent documents up to date and ensure that internal compliance requirements and processes are reviewed, updated and fulfilled
- Lead on relevant legal matters as they relate to and interact with World Rugby, 6 Nations, EPCR and Pro 14
- Proactively identify, evaluate and manage business legal risks whilst implementing appropriate solutions
