The Opportunity:
We are looking for an exceptional individual to take charge of the challenging role of Legal Assistant in supporting a busy practice in Lethbridge, Alberta. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 3 years of experience. Additional experience in real estate and civil litigation would be an asset.
Responsibilities include:
- Draft, transcribe, prepare and organize general correspondence and documents for a variety of legal practice areas to ensure all documentation is accurate and complete.
- Organize and maintain files relating to legal and administration matters including indexing and tracking.
- Receive, sort and prioritize pleadings, and calendaring required actions and due dates to ensure timeliness of responses and actions.
- Research including an ability to identify relevant legal case law, articles and decisions including investigating and fact-finding.
- Assist lawyer(s) in preparation for hearings, depositions, document production and trial.
- Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Suite of products needed to type, format and edit presentations, correspondence and various other documents and reports as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Attention to detail including accuracy and consistent high quality of work.
- Advanced computer skills, strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and confidently.
- Ability to utilize critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to communicate clearly in both the written and verbal form.
- Professional demeanor including an ability to manage all incoming client inquiries, work well with colleagues, lawyers, external clients and outside service providers. Experience with clients involving high conflict situations is an asset.
- Knowledge of court filing procedures and filing deadlines.
- Knowledge and use of ProLaw is an asset.
Compensation & Hours:
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Regular full-time position with working hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM subject to change from time to time.
