Position Summary:
The Legal Support Assistant provides administrative support; contract and affidavit lifecycle management and support; legal research and case monitoring support; and research assistance to the Office of Legal Counsel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage the organization’s contract management tool and assist with the contract workflow process.
- Keep track of the affidavit workflow process and assist with drafting affidavits.
- Assist with the use of e-signature technology on contracts and legal documents.
- Be credentialed as a Virginia Notary Public, or able to complete the application process to become a Notary Public and provide notary assistance as needed.
- Assist with processing of check requests, purchase orders, and reimbursement requests.
- Provide clerical support as needed (scheduling meetings; proofreading, updating, and managing data in legal databases, etc.).
- Manage, organize, and maintain case files, including court papers, research files, and general correspondence, and legislative briefing documents, testimony, and letters of support.
- Provide litigation support as needed relating to document preparation; helping to review and prepare documents responsive to discovery; tracking active legal cases; and compiling relevant content in files and/or databases.
- Conduct research on the status of active civil and criminal cases and general legal research on child-related legal news and developments.
- Search for and retrieve legal documents and commentary from online court systems, government agencies, libraries, and internet sources.
- Assist with drafting occasional social media content relating to legislative and/or legal matters.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and proofreading materials including letters of support for legislation, talking points, and fact sheets.
- Provide project management support for emerging legal and policy projects as needed
- Generate contract and related activity reports for departmental and organizational use.
- Embrace and embody the mission, guiding principles, and goals of NCMEC.
- Respond to requests for information from other departments and third parties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree required.
- Some research experience preferred (in educational capacity may be acceptable).
- Administrative experience in some capacity required.
- Proficiency and high comfort level in using software to create spreadsheets; manage, analyze, and enter data; create presentations, reports, and documents; and in managing and interacting with variety of software and research applications, such as: Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe, SharePoint, Pacer, LexisNexis, and contract and document discovery databases.
- Experience working/studying remotely and proficiently with online meeting tools, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
