The opportunity:
A new opportunity has arisen for a Legal Advisor to join the Zurich UK Legal Transactions Team. Working closely with UK Operations including sourcing, procurement and IT, you will be responsible for identifying, managing and mitigating legal, regulatory and corporate governance risks, enabling the business to achieve strategic and commercial goals. In particular, you will oversee commercial procurement contracts, IT contracts, outsourcing or insourcing contracts, SaaS contracts, intra-group arrangements, vendor management contracts and surrounding operational risks and issues. You may also be asked to advise more generally on data protection, IP and IT risks and issues and collaborate with the wider legal team on the same.

Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

What will you be doing?

  • In collaboration with the Transactions legal team and UK Operations team, provide legal advice to address and manage local legal issues and regulatory requirements in relation to a proposed commercial transaction as it relates to UK operations, procurement, digital, IP and data protection issues.
  • Closely support the Sourcing & Procurement function, including by provision of legal training and increased efficiency of contracting process through delivery of standard template agreements.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and actively monitor legal trends, so as to anticipate the business impact of changes to the market environment and relevant regulatory changes, prepare appropriate responses and support the business in defining actions as seen fit.
  • Identify and interact with internal stakeholders to further the comprehension of the functional mandates and ensure functional involvement in matters of relevance.
  • Supporting the preparation of board papers.
  • Assist with supporting the Transactions Team in associated areas as requested by your Line Manager.
  • General training on commercial legal issues to the business and the legal team as necessary.

What are we looking for?
  • Qualified in England and Wales with a minimum 1 year PQE
  • Strong understanding and relevant experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with particular reference to data, procurement and complex operational issues.
  • A keen interest (and, if possible, background) in technology, data and the digital landscape as applied to Financial Services
  • Not essential, but beneficial would be in house experience in a financial services environment, ideally with an Insurer or Insurance Intermediary (GI or Life) and knowledge of the regulatory landscape in which Insurers operate.
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced workload, work with internal clients across numerous functions and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple issues/transactions simultaneously
  • Ability to manage and oversee external counsel and report on the same to internal stakeholders.
  • Being a dynamic and curious individual who likes to learn new skills and work across a number of different projects and issues.
