Overview

The Law & Policy Division of WorkSafeBC is looking for two Articling Students, Legal for the 2024-2025 articling term.

If you are interested in applying your talents, knowledge and gaining valuable experience in personal injury, civil litigation, administrative law, and corporate/commercial law, we want to hear from you. This is a one-year temporary opportunity commencing May 2024.

We’ll be participating in the Vancouver Bar Association’s (“VBA”) interview week. Please visit the VBA website for more information on interview week and student guidelines. The interviews will be conducted remotely in person. Virtual interview can be accommodated upon request. Should you be invited for an interview, you will be provided further instruction with regards to the details.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll apply what you’ve learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.

Where you’ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you’ll work on-site in our Richmond head office at a minimum of twice per week and from your B.C. home.

What you'll do

  • Conducting legal research and writing memoranda
  • Drafting legal documents
  • Assisting in commercial transactions
  • Conduct of litigation files including attending hearings and other court proceedings with counsel

Your experience and educational background:

  • At the time of application, you must either be enrolled in the final year of education at a Canadian law school or equivalent, have graduated from a Canadian law school or equivalent (LLB or JD granted), or have NCA accreditation if you receive education outside of Canada
  • Must meet the Law Society of British Columbia’s requirements for admission into the Law Society Admission Program

  • Confirm you’re legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Confirm you’re a registered law student at a post-secondary institution, have graduated from a Canadian law school or equivalent (LLB or JD granted), or have NCA accreditation
  • Successfully meet the legal requirements under the Criminal Records Review Act to work with children and/or vulnerable adults

Our benefits

  • Extra 4% of your salary in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation from the day you start
