REF: CVSY039A

In 2018 Queen Margaret University was selected by the Scottish Government to offer a new suite of undergraduate and postgraduate Teacher Education programmes and we welcomed our first cohorts in September 2019. We currently have approximately 600 students on Education programmes and now have the opportunity to further grow our Teacher Education team as we seek to appoint a 1.0 FTE Lecturer in the Teacher Education with quantitative social science expertise to contribute to teacing across the division, but with a specific focus on supporting our undergraduate provision in Teacher Education and the expansion of our new online asynchronous MA programmes in Education.

This is an exciting opportunity for career development and progression given the growth in our educational programmes and research in this area, which the university is keen to expand further. The purpose of the role is to provide excellent and innovative teaching both online and on campus; provide academic guidance; guide curriculum and programme design and undertake scholarship in an aspect of teacher education. The post offers the opportunity to work with colleagues in the Division of Psychology, Sociology & Education, as well as across the University, and to broaden our collaborative engagement with educational professionals across the sector.

The postholder will have the opportunity to apply their skills, knowledge, and expertise to our new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, which share the reputable approach taken by the division in being intellectually rigorous and research based, with a focus on wellbeing, social justice and diversity at their core. Our programmes are designed to meet the challenges as well as recognise the rewards of teaching children and young people in the 21st century and will prepare students by actively engaging them in contemporary issues in psychology, sociology and education and help them develop a sound knowledge of lifespan development and the range of factors that affect it.

We are seeking motivated individuals with an interest in education and demonstrable experience and scholarship interest in an aspect of the Social Sciences related to teacher education. You may be a Teacher Educator already, with or without a school teaching qualification, or your expertise may be in Sociology or Psychology with a specific focus on education and a strong knowledge and understanding of quantative methods.

You will have experience in delivering University-level provision in a cognate subject as well as experience of programme development and knowledge of validation and accreditation procedures. You should also bring some prior experience and understanding of designing and delivering online learning and be enthusiastic about creating new online programmes and developing your skills and expertise in this area.

While the role is advertised as a Teaching and Scholarship position, we would be open to offering a Teaching and Research contract for those with an existing track record of relevant research publications.

Likewise, while the post is advertised as 1.0FTE, we would be open to applications for a 0.5FTE role, or jobshare. It that case, we would be open to one role being focused on the development and delivery of online programmes, and the other on quantative social sciences. In both cases the disciplinary focus should be on education.

It is important that the post-holder(s) share the ethos of the Division, School, and University in being concerned with issues of social justice and are passionate about applying this ethos in the design and delivery of our programmes.

Please note: As we are aware that many school-based practitioners may not wish or be in a position to leave the school sector to work exclusively in HE, Secondments and fractional post(s) for this role are also welcome. Applicants should apply through the normal means and specify their position in their application.
