Job description

Job Purpose
To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Chaplaincy; to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching and to contribute occasionally to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching more widely in the Nursing & Healthcare School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Make a substantial contribution to delivering and leading a range of teaching, supervision and assessment activities in the Nursing & Healthcare School, primarily the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Chaplaincy.
2. Promote and deliver formational learning and assessment in collaboration with qualified others.
3. Carry out course and programme administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
4. Take a lead in the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment and equips students to practise in contemporary NHS environments.
5. Develop effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
6. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
7. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.
8 .Develop a growing portfolio of scholarship outputs and activities by undertaking methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, enquiries into student learning and disseminate evidence to enhance your own, and potentially others’, teaching practices. Attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in your disciplinary and/or professional area.
9. Develop relationships with external stakeholders in support of knowledge exchange, public understanding and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.
10. Participate in activities associated with student recruitment (e.g. open days), orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability and student mobility as appropriate.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
13. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
Qualifications
Essential
A1 Current registration with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains.
A2 Higher degree in a relevant discipline.
Desirable
B1 First degree in subject area relevant to chaplaincy and spiritual care.
B2 Recognised teaching qualification.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
C1 Track record of scholarship and development and delivery of teaching, and proven ability to develop and devise teaching programmes, techniques and methods.
C2 Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in the specialist subject/discipline to develop teaching programmes/methodologies/learning support, for example, proven track record of several years involvement in facilitating formational learning within an HEI and/or healthcare chaplaincy context.
C3 Proven ability to design, review and enhance multiple learning, teaching and assessment programmes.
C4 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding and developing early career academic colleagues.
C5 Continuing engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
C6 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.
C7 Demonstrated commitment to open research, as appropriate to the discipline, through open data, open code, open educational resources and practices that support replication.
C8 Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues and to other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.
C9 Evidence of a mature reflective life stance and engagement in ongoing intentional soul work to promote the further development of reflexivity and practical wisdom e.g., evidence of engagement in current pastoral supervision and other soulful reflective activities e.g. reflective practice groups, spiritual direction, therapy.
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience and achievement in the relevant field reflected in an expanding personal academic portfolio, including several years’ experience in a healthcare chaplaincy leadership role with strategic responsibilities.
E2 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching and research methods and devising models, approaches, techniques, critiques and methods.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 8, £46,047 - £53,353 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time, 14 hours per week and open ended.
