The Post
The Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport are looking to recruit a Lecturer in Nursing to enhance our Health Sciences undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and contribute specifically to the development of our BSc Nursing programme and the enhancement of practice learning.
The successful candidate will be able to design and deliver online and face-to-face courses at both under-graduate and post-graduate level using an evidence-based approach to education and research-led teaching. The post demands excellence in teaching and learning and innovative approaches to promote student engagement. Experience of creative development of virtual learning would be a significant advantage. Equally, the successful candidate would have a solid understanding of the regulations and standards that govern healthcare education and related clinical skills and practice. Ideally, they will have, or be working towards a PhD or evidence of a track record in healthcare role.
The post holder will be required to be a NMC registrant, preferably holding an Adult Health registration and have expertise in teaching and learning within further or higher education or clinical practice environments. In addition, the post holder would have experience of the educational requirements for registered nurses and supporting and assessing nursing students, enhancing student experience and working collaboratively to support learning.
Description of Duties
- Design, deliver, assess and evaluate a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate, postgraduate including online/digital programmes, where required
- Contribute to curriculum review and enhancement, in a manner that supports student learning and is underpinned by evidence based scholarly activity
- Enhance the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector
- Develop and apply new, effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
- Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability
- Mentor students and staff as required, providing direction, support and guidance
- Engage in individual and collaborative pedagogical research and scholarly activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, and disseminate results through regular publication in a manner appropriate to the work
- Independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, contribute to attract external funding/income for scholarship activities
- Work to influence the higher education agenda in a specific disciplinary area or teaching and learning more generally
- Participate in the Faculty’s international engagement activities as required e.g. delivering teaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment of students
- Lead, participate and develop networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/Faculty/University
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- PhD in relevant discipline or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience
- Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent e.g. PGCert and/or holding or working towards Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA)
- Current NMC registration
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Experience of designing and delivering excellent learning activities and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes
- Evidence of developing effective learning environments and approaches to student support and guidance
- Experience or knowledge of approaches to enhance the student experience
- Evidence of engaging in networks, locally, nationally and internationally

- Demonstrable experience of delivering research impact in public health practice or policy
- Experience of/interest in research on commercial determinants of health including unhealthy commodities, related policies, and the activities of industry
- Evidence of successful incorporation of subject and pedagogic research and/or scholarship within design and delivery of learning activities and programme development as part of an integrated approach to academic practice
- Evidence of programme innovation and development
- Evidence of knowledge to support international activities
- A track record of high quality general or subject specific pedagogical work published in appropriate outlets/media
- A record of involvement in developing teaching and scholarship proposals to bid for external funding
- Evidence of good knowledge of the Higher Education context and regulatory framework

Health Sciences
We have a thriving research and post-graduate community of PhD and Clinical Doctorate students. We offer a number of undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities. Our BSc Nursing (Adult or Mental Health) course has won eleven Student Nursing Times Awards since 2012 including UK Nurse educator of the year twice. We have also received multiple commendations from the Nursing and Midwifery Council for our close working relationships with our NHS partners. Our nursing lecturers work in collaboration with our paramedic lecturers to deliver excellence in teaching across the Paramedic Science programme.
