University of Sheffield
Full Time Sheffield, England 45737 - 54421 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We are looking for an ambitious and energetic individual to join one of the leading History departments in the UK in an open-ended position to develop our research, teaching and knowledge exchange in medieval history.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.

The Department of History is one of the most active centres for historical research in the country, with a distinguished record of internationally outstanding and innovative historical research. We have an international reputation for high quality and innovative learning and teaching, delivered by staff who are both committed to providing an outstanding student experience and who are at the cutting edge of research in their own disciplines. The Department of History is regularly ranked highly in the National Student Survey and we pride ourselves on our commitment to a diverse curriculum, small classes and research-led teaching. We are deeply committed to public outreach: we have strong relationships with schools, engagement with a range of partners in the local community and lively department blog. We are a friendly and inclusive department with good relations between academics and support staff.

We will consider applications from candidates with research and teaching expertise in any aspect of medieval history within the period 500 CE to 1500 CE, but we may give precedence to those with strengths in our strategic priority areas. You will join a dynamic core team of medieval and ancient historians and participate in numerous thematic clusters and centres in the Department and across the University. In the first year, the individual will contribute to team-taught modules, before developing their own modules for subsequent years.
For further information candidates are encouraged to read the supporting About the Job documentation. You can view the supporting documentation by clicking ‘Apply’ at the top of the screen.

The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
