This full-time, two year fixed term post is available from 1 September 2023.


The role

You will support the delivery of Art History and Visual Culture teaching for the Undergraduate and MA level degrees. The post includes responsibility for the design, development and delivery of teaching and learning materials across a range of modules within these programmes, with a focus on any aspect of contemporary art and curation.


You will contribute to undergraduate team-taught core module teaching in Art History and Visual Culture, including the field trip, and supervision of final year dissertations. You will be closely involved in the development and delivery of the MA Curation: Contemporary Art and Cultural Management throughout the year, including supporting the student experience, convening and teaching modules, dissertation supervision, managing the production of students’ curatorial projects and managing relationships with partner institutions where the student placements will take place. Direct experience of working in art curation is essential along with the ability to build industry networks. You will contribute directly to foundation teaching in Art History and Visual Culture and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices.


About you

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture, Contemporary Art and/or Curation, or equivalent to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Have direct experience of working in contemporary art curation, along with the ability to build industry networks
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
