Job description

On August 1st, 2023, City College Southampton, Eastleigh College and Fareham College will merge to form the South Hampshire College Group. This merger represents an exciting opportunity for the region’s students, offering defined pathways into employment, with employers benefiting from a more joined up approach that will create work ready employees aligned to the region’s growth agenda as well as a fresh start for all staff by embedding best practice, resources and cultures that will deliver an outstanding college. The merged group (who will all retain their campus names) will have a turnover of around £42 million and employ over 800 staff. Annually, the group would be responsible for the education and training of more than 3,600 students aged 16-19, over 1,200 apprentices and over 5,000 adults.

We are recruiting for an ambitious, professional, resilient and respectful:

Lecturer in Plumbing

Salary up to £21,250.20 (£35,417 FTE) per annum with Teachers Pension Scheme*.

*Subject to change dependant on start date to South Hampshire College Group terms and conditions.

22.2 hours per week (0.6 FTE), 52 weeks per year.

Duties:

  • Teach on courses and work to develop an outstanding provision that has a positive impact on the learner and assessment process.
  • Assist in the development of teaching and learning materials, preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and maintaining records to monitor student progression, achievement and attendance.
  • Provide appropriate and relevant guidance for students enabling them to develop knowledge, understanding and skills.
  • Develop and implement timely, safe, consistent and relevant assessments, assessment plans and resources that are linked to initial and current assessments.
  • Assist with enrolment, marketing, induction, course review and evaluation activities as required.
  • Take course management responsibilities for courses as identified by the Head of Department.

Skills/experience:

  • Highly motivated Plumber with a range of industry experience.
  • Good organisational skills coupled with the flexibility and ability to work responsively to the needs of the learners.
  • Well organised and hold an excellent range of communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft IT packages.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCSE grade 4 / C in English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Level 3 NVQ in plumbing is essential.
  • Assessor and moderator/IV Awards are desirable.
  • Willingness to work towards teaching qualification / or to hold a teaching qualification.
