Job Title: Learning and Engagement Officer P2077 (Fixed term contract)

Salary: £34,483 up to £37,924 inclusive annual salary [pro rata for part-time role] + up to 19.7% employer pension contribution

Contract: 3 Year Fixed Term Contract

Post: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Location: Flexible working options

Annual Leave: 26.5 days, plus public bank holidays

Service Area: Community and Place Delivery - Arts, Tourism, Heritage and Culture

St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1 the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. St Albans Museums runs several sites including Verulamium Museum, the 15th century Clock Tower and the new St Albans Museum + Gallery, at the heart of the city centre.

Recently, our museum service successfully secured funding from Arts Council England as part of the National Portfolio Organisation programme. This is one of the posts that is funded from this grant.


In this role you will be part of our Audience Development team leading on the development and delivery of formal and informal learning programmes across the museum service. You will work with colleagues to develop new partnerships, build our audiences and their understanding of our collections and the local area and ensure an excellent visitor experience.


Educated to degree level or equivalent with a learning qualification or relevant experience, you will have sound working knowledge of the National Curriculum and other formal learning frameworks. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills together with previous experience of delivering and devising learning programmes and activities is essential for this post. You must also be an excellent communicator with supervisory skills together with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
