JOB TITLE: Lean Coach
REPORTS TO: Head of Performance
LOCATION: Scheme Site (initially Yeovil), plus home working. Occasional travel to other Scheme sites and Solihull office.

The Role:

Purpose of the role:
As a lean coach you will be responsible for acting as a BPO for a number of `lean activities plus acting as a focal point for a scheme in regard to their lean journey and improvement plan. With the focus on supporting the local Leadership team in embracing both lean tools and techniques coupled with lean leadership behaviours. In addition supporting the wider business goals of an engaged workforce that strives to continually improve and, promoting well being and development for both the schemes and the individuals within the schemes. In addition to delivering the goals and objectives for the process excellence Team you will be expected to support the schemes deliver of their objectives in regard to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and, Environment.
Key responsibilities:
You will:
- Contribute to the maintenance of health and safety standards
- Carry out 1 to 1 coaching for the leadership team within a scheme in regard to leadership behaviours
- Be accountable for the delivery of the low cost, no cost improvement initiatives both in regard to the number of opportunities raised and the demonstrated benefits against the agreed SMART target’s
- Be responsible for the support and coaching of the people identified by our sub-contractors working through their lean development programme in order that projects are delivered in a timely manner with demonstrable benefits . While setting up the learners to be able to apply the skills learnt going forward into future
- Be personally accountable for delivering three A3’s with a minimum of £150k savings per A3
- Roll modelling lean standards and behavioural standards in them being the starting point for any improvements / problem solving
- Supporting Lean Training
- Participate in frequent team meetings

Person Specification:
Competency Requirements
- Well organised, methodical, and structured in their approach
- Have a breadth of experience in the application of the suite of lean tools from Hoshin Kanri to seven waste identification / elimination
- Excellent coaching and leadership skills. Being able to adapt their style and approach dependant on the “customer”
- High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills
- Good influencing skills with the ability to act as an advocate for challenging the status quo
- Skilled in managing people of differing levels of seniority, managing expectations and delivering on commitments
- Proficient in the use of DMAIC or similar structured approach to analysis coupled with a go, look, see mind set
Technical / Professional Qualifications Required
- Minimum level 1c LCS certification, Lean Practitioner or equivalent or certified green belt in 6 sigma
- Able to demonstrate a minimum of three projects delivered through to Control
- A minimum of five years in a lean transformation role
- Excellent communication skills
- Able and willing to commit three days minimum per week to on-site work regardless of location
Desirable
- Experience in delivering lean programmes in a construction environment
- Adaptable to applying Lean thinking to a new industry hungry for Lean
- Being in commuting distance to Yeovil
Summary:
As a lean coach you will be key member of the Performance Team. You will act as a Business Process Owner (BPO) for certain elements across the business supported by a network and, in addition be expected to ensure adherence to any standards developed by the other BPO’s. The focus for this role is being able to deliver through others while developing the Teams ability to apply the lean “toolbox” with a major focus on promoting “behaviours”. You would report directly to the Head of Performance and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Operational Excellence strategy for Highways, but have a dotted line to the scheme Director and Senior Lean Coach in order that you can help delivery our objectives based on the companies wider objectives / scorecard
