Leadership Support Officer /Clerk to the Board of Trustees

22.5 hours per week
FTE Salary: £25,841.11
Salary for role £15,714.19
West Mercia Women’s Aid is the lead charity working with victims of domestic abuse across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, with 40 years of service delivery and campaigning. We are looking to recruit a Leadership Support Officer and Clerk to the Board of Trustees who shares our mission and ethos to join our dedicated staff team.
The role involves 2 distinct areas of work
- Providing support to the Board of Trustees and promoting good governance
- Providing support to the Leadership Team, specifically the CEO and HR Manager
Providing support to the Board of Trustees and promoting good governance
You will provide confidential advice and administrative support to the Board of Trustees of West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA) in the formal official capacity of Clerk to the Board. You will - promote good governance by ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, codes of practice and WMWA’s Articles of Association, and advise the Board on possible applications of good or innovative practice by ensuring, in consultation with the CEO, that Trustees are kept fully up to date of the local/regional/national context of their work. The role is key in maintaining the momentum of the work of the Board with responsibilities that include the recruitment of Trustees and Board member elections. Regular duties include, but are not limited to, preparing agendas and commissioning papers for meetings, booking meeting spaces and refreshments, providing timely minutes/notes on completion of meetings for early agreement by the Chair (of the Board, and/or any committee), and maintaining the safekeeping of all records of Board business.
Providing Support to the Leadership Team, specifically the CEO and HR Manager
As Leadership Support Officer you will assist the CEO in the facilitation of staff engagement with the work of the Board of Trustees, through the organisation of briefings and events, and staff engagement in the development and review of organisational policies and procedures. You will also provide important and confidential administrative support, including the management of communications to WMWA in the CEO’s absence, and specific support for the HR manager in the production of notes from confidential meetings and recruitment processes. You will also be required to promote the effective use of HR-related systems which will include the auditing of HR files to ensure compliance with GDPR and accuracy of data stored.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a similar role in the voluntary sector and be able to ensure good governance. They will be skilled in providing support to both Trustees, and to those in leadership positions. They will have good numeracy and IT skills, proficient in using Outlook; Word; Excel; and PowerPoint. The ideal candidate must have the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing to all levels of the WMWA team, and be able to use their own initiative to be organised and meet deadlines.
In accordance with our safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check. In return we can offer on-going training to support your personal and professional development. We provide regular supervision and the opportunity for you to contribute towards the development of the service. Benefits include 33 days holiday per year (pro rata) increasing with service, enhanced sickness, maternity, paternity and adoption pay (subject to length of service)
