The role


Medivet have an opportunity for a vet to join the team to help lead our Ashby practice.

Our Lead Vets are responsible for directing the practice and its staff in providing the very best care to clients and pets. You’ll also have an engaged interest in the running of the practice and be rewarded for its success.

This role would suit an already established lead vet looking for an opportunity to grow within a new company or an experienced vet looking to take the next step in their career. Clinical freedom and development of all our staff is important and you will have the opportunity to drive high clinical standards right from the start.

Development of our practices and teams is core to what we do and this role will enable you to help develop and shape the growth of this new practice alongside your team, and with the support of your regional team. Branch Partnership opportunities within this practice are also available where you can own part of the clinic, have complete clinical freedom whilst receiving full support from the wider Medivet network.

Salary package of up to £72,900 PA. plus £5000 Signing Bonus.

We can also support Certificates of Sponsorship for a Tier 2 (General) Visa if you meet the criteria and are eligible to register as a veterinary surgeon with the RCVS upon arrival in the UK.

This is a permanent, full time role working 39 hours per week over four days with a share of weekends but we're open to negotiation so get in touch and let us know what works for you.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage the sales performance, budget and overall profitability of the practice on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ensure all team members provide quality and ethical care to all clients and their pets/livestock.
  • Assess and examine and diagnose patients’ medical issues.
  • Perform surgery, dress and treat wounds.
  • Perform diagnostic laboratory, imaging and ultrasound testing where required.
  • Prescribe medication.
  • Promote preventative care by advocating and administering routine vaccinations and immunisations.
  • Educate clients on positive lifestyle choices for pets/livestock
  • Euthanise patients.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statutes, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain patients medical records.

Skills and experience

  • Registered with the RCVS.
  • Qualified MRCVS.
  • Commitment to animal welfare.
  • Ability to keep on top of practise protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

The Ashby practice has a friendly and dedicated client base and a varied caseload, the practice itself has three consult rooms, one double surgical theatre, dental suite, digital x-ray room, prep area, separated dog and cat isolation rooms. Digital x-ray, ultrasound, laparoscopic equipment, inhouse blood machines. There is massive potential in this practice, it even has a separate cat clinic!

The team currently consists of four vets, a head nurse, two RVN's, two student nurses, four patient care assistants and three client care assistants.
