WORK PATTERN: Campus based position with flexible/hybrid policy for project work after short probationary period. You will likely be supported by additional Sexual Violence Support Officers as the role progresses.

THE ROLE:
This newly created position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to shape the provision of sexual violence support and prevention at the University of Hull.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated candidate to play a pivotal role in shaping our response to Sexual Misconduct, Violence and Harassment through the provision of specialist, impartial advice, emotional and practical support to students who have experienced any form of Sexual Misconduct, Violence and/or Harassment. The role will also contribute to shaping policy, best practice, and guidance.
The LSVPS will be responsible for the overall development and delivery of the service, which will include recruiting and coordinating a group of Sexual Violence Liaison Officers to ensure students receive a confidential, responsive, and reliable service providing trauma-informed, individualised, and impartial support for all matters relating to Sexual Misconduct, Violence and Harassment.
The LSVPS will be expected to work dynamically and collaboratively across the University to develop and sustain partnerships with external agencies to influence, develop and enhance the support available to our students and staff. The LSVPS will also assume responsibility for activities relating to prevention and culture change in this area.
The ideal candidate will have considerable experience of working in a service to deliver 1:1 support, advice and guidance to adults who have experienced sexual violence and will have a demonstrable understanding of the impact of and dynamics surrounding sexual violence. The role holder will ideally possess an accredited Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVA) qualification, however, applicants without this, but with relevant experience, will be considered. The candidate will be experienced in assessing risk, as well as possessing knowledge of relevant legislation and UK legal processes.
Utilising excellent interpersonal and communications skills, the role holder will have an empathic style and an ability to build trust and credibility. Emotional resilience, understanding of professional boundaries, the ability to work autonomously and calmly under pressure will also be key attributes of the role.
DUTIES:

Provide welfare support to students.
- Have practical working knowledge of the systems, processes and procedures across a section or area of work and may have detailed knowledge of specialist systems and/or a broad understanding of a wide range of activities. This knowledge is gained by extensive practical experience and/or through formal instruction. The work requires the use of initiative and judgement on how to address and resolve problems with minimal guidance and instructions from senior colleagues.
- Plan and prioritise own work and may be required to supervise the work of others and monitor progress within agreed objectives ensuring the effective use of resources.
- Be expected to contribute to longer term developments within the department, such as implementing improvements to working methods, policies, and procedures.With oversight from the Mental Health Practitioner Healthy Relationship Lead, the Lead Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Officer is responsible for the provision of specialist, impartial advice, emotional and practical support and guidance to students within the University Community who have experienced Sexual Misconduct, Violence and/or Harassment. They will also provide advice and guidance to staff who are supporting students with these issues and ensure that each student receives a confidential, responsive, and reliable service providing trauma-informed and individualised support.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery and development of the service, which includes:
- Developing a project plan for the recruitment and introduction of Sexual Violence Liaison Officers; achieving objectives, monitoring progress and evaluation of the impact.
- Co-ordinating the Sexual Violence Liaison Officers, ensuring the correct resource and managing their workloads.
- Provide specialist, impartial advice, emotional and practical support, and policy guidance to students who may have experienced any form of Sexual Misconduct, Violence and/or Harassment.
- Creating and delivering role appropriate training (for example on consent, bystander awareness, disclosure training) to staff and students.
- Co-ordinating the development and delivery of activities and campaigns to enhance student awareness, promote a campus culture of respect and dignity and encourage confidence in the University’s response to the disclosure and reporting of sexual misconduct, violence, and harassment.
- Clearly and impartially explain formal reporting options available to a student, either via internal University misconduct procedures or with the Police. If reporting via the University, the post holder may be asked to take the reporting party’s statement.
- Support the reporting party to attend misconduct panel hearings and meetings, advocating on their behalf as appropriate.
