Job Description
Renishaw's Styli & Fixturing Products Division has an exciting opportunity within the Styli Projects Team for a Lead R&D Engineer. This role will primarily focus on innovative technology and product development opportunities to ensure Renishaw’s continued success as the world leader in this highly competitive market. The successful candidate will work closely with the wider Styli design team, as well as the marketing team and our subsidiary network, to ensure the success of future product launches, as well as supporting the continued development of our current styli range.
Responsibilities

Ensure the successful completion of a variety of exciting new development projects already underway, and help to guide strategic priorities for the future.

Lead and mentor the styli design team focussed on these projects

Ensure the styli team maintains a detailed understanding of styli products, their capabilities and the applications in which they are used

Support manufacturing with introduction of new products and problem-solving activities once in production

Support the wider styli team with cost reduction / continuous improvement for the current product portfolio
Key requirements
-
All applicants are to be degree qualified in a relevant engineering, mathematics or science discipline, or equivalent experience

Established engineering background proven through successfully completed design/research projects

Good understanding of risk management, problem solving and root cause methodologies

Strong CAD experience, ideally Siemens NX and Teamcenter PLM

Good understanding of processes for: product specification; verification and validation; execution of test activities; and reporting of results and conclusions

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Leadership potential

A UK driving licence, as travel to other sites will be required
Desirable requirements

Experience supervising or managing a design engineering team

Strong understanding of metrology principles

Good understanding of manufacturing/assembly processes, including DfM/DfA principles

Awareness/understanding of FEA, particularly Ansys
Person specification
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a practical approach to design, supported by great problem-solving skills and attention to detail. They will be self-motivated with a hands-on attitude to develop both products and processes, able to work on multiple projects concurrently. The individual in this role will have demonstrable organisational skills; able to forward-plan, prioritise tasks and co-ordinate the work of others. They will be capable of taking the lead in solving technical problems, making design recommendations based on firm evidence.
Location
The role is based at the New Mills site near Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire. However, occasional visits to all Gloucestershire manufacturing sites will be required.
