Your role and responsibilities
We have an exciting opportunity available to join the team as the Lead medicine nurse due to expansion of our busy department.
Our medicine team currently consists of a Medicine Team Lead Nurse and 9 medicine nurses. We have specialist veterinary surgeons in internal medicine, cardiology, dermatology, soft tissue, orthopedics, neurology and anesthesia. We work closely alongside the imaging team to perform advanced pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative imaging including radiology, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI.
The successful candidate will have at least 2 year's experience in a referral setting and will demonstrate effective medicine scheduling and supportive team leadership skills.
They will also be confident and competent in monitoring anesthesia for a range of patients for medical procedures, including emergency, critically ill patients and interventional radiography procedures. However, further in house training and support is available where required.
The Lead Medicine Nurse will be responsible for assisting with the efficient and effective leadership of the Medicine nursing team. You will work closely and collaboratively with the Team Leaders and Head of Nursing Services across the practice to ensure the efficient delivery of outstanding patient care within the Medicine department. You will work enthusiastically with the nursing team to help maintain a happy and efficient working environment, whilst ensuring practice and group policies are always adhered to.
This role includes ensuring the provision of high standards of patient and client care, providing performance reviews, training team members, and coordination for all relevant personnel working within the team.
This is a full-time position, working a 40hr week, including weekends (1:7) and share of on-call duties.

About us
Veterinary Specialists, Scotland is a newly established and rapidly expanding, purpose-built, multi-disciplinary referral centre in the heart of Scotland. Based in Livingston, just 20 minutes away from Edinburgh, 40 minutes from Glasgow and 15 minutes from the Edinburgh International Airport, it allows for easy access to cities, or for an escape to the hills and sea.
Since opening in October 2020, we have expanded from 8 to 17 specialists and residency-trained clinicians across seven clinical disciplines. Our building has huge potential for expansion and the clinic is still an exciting work in progress. This is an exciting opportunity to help to establish a new service and to drive its development.
