The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is one of the finest orchestras in the UK. Based in Glasgow, it is part of the BBC’s family of orchestras, broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio 3, BBC TV and online, and performs live around Scotland, the UK, at the BBC Proms each year and tours internationally. The orchestra’s Chief Conductor is Ryan Wigglesworth, and the orchestra has a strong reputation for exceptional and versatile playing, commitment to contemporary music and a willingness to experiment.
Main Responsibilities
The BBC SSO is seeking an accomplished and experienced Marketing Manager to lead the marketing and communications team of this exceptional orchestra in the vibrant and busy BBC music environment.
This is a permanent post and an excellent opportunity for a candidate who has a proven track record in music or performing arts marketing, audience development and communications.

Are you the right candidate?To be successful in this role you will need:
- An excellent knowledge of arts marketing, with substantial experience of devising and implementing marketing campaigns, and managing and developing consumer brands using advanced marketing techniques.
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques as well as experience of creating innovative digital and social media campaigns within the media or an industry of similar scale and impact
- Experience of leading team members to manage delivery through agency resources.
- Proven ability to transform creative ideas into practical reality
- Able to look at existing situations and problems in novel ways and come up with creative solutions.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people including all players and management team, wider BBC colleagues, conductors, artists and agents
- Ability to work co-operatively with others as part of a wider team.
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and sensitivity, and the ability to apply discretion and diplomacy.
- Excellent planning and organising skills are key – you will need the ability to think ahead in order to establish effective and appropriate course of action, taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resource requirements.
- You will need to be committed to improving and understanding diversity, with the ability to articulate how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
