Job Purpose

The challenge is to actively be the lead that drives towards a ‘safety first’ culture globally. Beyond leadership there is a key technical element to this role – with the provision of strategic advice, information and support to enable us to establish best practice in this space.
This opening is for a Functional Safety Engineer based at Dana Lindley Technology Centre, based at Mira Technology Park, Warwickshire, UK. This position is in the Functional Safety Corporate team, reporting to the Global Head of Functional Safety.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
This role will support the execution of the Functional Safety lifecycle globally by:
  • Delivering training
  • Mentoring project teams
  • Identifying process improvements
  • Approving or rejecting the outcomes of confirmation measures; and
  • Supporting Stage Gate/Design Review approvals

This role will interface with the following stakeholders in Dana:
  • Project/ Programme management to:
    • Clearly define boundaries of responsibility between the different locations involved in the project,
    • Ensure the delivery of functional safety work products is well understood
  • Systems engineers to:
    • Agree functional content at the different levels to perform relevant safety analyses
    • Review and approve Stakeholder and System requirements, to satisfy customer requirements
    • Develop the technical safety concept to satisfy customer requirements
  • Software team to:
    • Agree Software Architecture to fulfil required ASIL recommendations
    • Review and approve Software safety requirements to satisfy technical safety requirements
  • Hardware Team to:
    • Agree Hardware Architecture to fulfil required ASIL recommendations
    • Review and approve Hardware safety requirements to satisfy technical safety requirements
  • Other Dana Functional Safety Professionals to:
    • Improve synergies across business units
    • Develop commercial off the shelf product offerings

This position welcomes applicants with previous background in the definition, documentation and monitoring of product development processes.
Education and Qualification
Four-year degree in Automotive / Electrical / Systems Engineering or a related field of study
Required Skills, Abilities and Attributes
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role (functional safety of automotive products)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working to ISO 26262, with strong knowledge of Functional Safety principles
  • Developed at least one FS related product and implemented at least one process area
  • Experience in the implementation of functional safety standards like IEC 61508, EN 13849, ISO 26262, ISO 15998, ISO 25119, IEC 62061, and other related standards for systems, hardware and software development like CMMI, INCOSE, ASPICE.
  • Advanced knowledge of ISO26262
  • Advanced knowledge industry experience with safety analyses techniques (FMEA, FTA both quantitative and qualitative)
  • Strong knowledge on systems engineering principles and ability to use this in a multi-disciplinary approach (electronics, software, mechanical hardware, hydraulics)
  • Proven record of eliciting and implementing requirements from design to production
  • 5+ years of demonstrated progressive responsibility and hands-on experience with vehicle system architectures and control systems.
  • Functional Safety experience in vehicles. Powertrain and EV applications preferred
