Main Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Lead Firefighter responsible for a major piece of firefighting equipment such as a pumper, aerial ladder truck or an airport rescue fire-fighting vehicle. You will be responsible for the crew of three or more firefighters engaged in structural firefighting and rescue operations and the reduction and/or elimination of potential fire hazards.
Lead the assigned crew and perform emergency rescue and immediate first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare victims for transport to a medical facility. Assign crewmembers to perform maintenance firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. Comply with health, safety and environmental rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.

1. Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses etc., and of basic and specialized firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques and procedures.
2. Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and/or technical orders; and HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification.
3. Knowledge of basic building design, construction, and occupancy.
4. Skill in detecting and recognizing fire hazards (potential and immediate), and in operating communications equipment.
5. Ability to maintain good working relations; communicate orally and in writing; and lift and carry heavy loads.
6. Ability to provide leadership and integrate the actions of a crew under emergency conditions.

- Hours of work: Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 12-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training
1. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid LGV Cat. C driving licence is required for the position.
2. Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
3. Required to work a 24-hour shift pattern, which will include weekends and public holidays. May be subject to recall.
4. Employee may be subject to random drug testing.
5. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
6. Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program and meet UK/US physical and medical requirements.
7. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
8. Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System as Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I,
Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I and II), Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Apparatus Driver Operator (including
Pumper, Aerial and mobile water supply), Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting. Will be required to work in the Fire Alarm and
Communications Center (FACC), and will be required to maintain certification as a Telecommunicator (Level I & II). Please note:
Training plans will be established and monitored by the supervisor and may specify the length of time the employee has to obtain certification. Some training may require recertification on a regular or intermittent basis.
9. May be assigned other duties not described in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
10. May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties, or attend necessary training.
11. There is a mandatory retirement age of 60 years for firefighters hired under the Local National Direct Hire program.
