Lead Fabricator
Bickerton, North Yorkshire
£15 - £16.70/hour

An opportunity to work with a highly reputable multi-disciplined manufacturing company working within the creative industries. This company work with high profile clients such as Google, The BBC, Amazon, Netflix, and governments, producing products from Olympic Cauldrons to TV sets, or giant artworks and jaw-dropping structures. Their work can be seen around the world and falls into the theatre, TV set, ceremonies, art installations, architectural pavilions, and large-scale event categories. Information on the role
- Support the department supervisor in welding and fabricating, ensuring a high standard on all projects
- Fabrication of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium components
- Lead a team of fabricators, following day-to-day production plans
- Grind, Sand, Polish, and detail fabrications using hand power tools
- Liaise with the design and production teams, providing input into new ideas/designs
- Take the lead on a specific project working with other fabricators to take it from start to finish
- Work with little/no supervision when required
- Solve problems according to the day-to-day production plans
- Record all builds as complete by ensuring the internal database is checked off
- Communicate with department supervisors on relevant information e.g., job briefs, progress reports, and any issues/problems that arise
- Be flexible and assist other departments
What we’d like from you
- Previous fabrication and welding experience
- Proficiency in a variety of mechanical fitting techniques
- Knowledge of assembly/disassembly, fitting, and maintenance
- Comfortable reading engineering drawings
- Knowledge of hydraulics
- Strong communication and teamworking skills

Information on the role
- Oversee the production planning process, ensuring alignment with procedures and coordinate inter-departmental transport
- Responsible for material and stock control, chasing PO requestions, and ensuring adequate storage space
- Manage sub-contractor production work, identifying and maintaining contact with sub-contractors
- Source suppliers and products as the production team needs
- Lead and manage staff, and aid staff development
- Clearly communicate targets and KPI’s, ensuring these are achieved and in line with policies and procedures
- Issue drawings to the workshops for specific projects
- Co-ordinate as necessary with the Design team to ensure key workshop personnel have the necessary input into the design and specification
- Manage, control, and mitigate quality issues
- Ensure all procedures, systems, risk assessments, and method statements are followed, obtained, and reviewed
What we’d like from you
- Proven experience leading and managing a team
- Experience working to varying product deadlines and changing specification
- Knowledge of H&S and correct use of PPE
- Working knowledge of construction methods, wood, steel, CNC machinery, and equipment
- Experience in a multi-disciplinary workshop environment
- Excellent drive, enthusiasm, positivity, and flexibility
- Organisational and time management skills
