Recent changes in the Retail Bank have resulted in the Cards, Loans and Transport businesses moving into the new Consumer Lending division led by Jas Singh. The restructure has not changed the fundamental nature of those businesses – offering lending and financing for consumers and vehicle leasing to businesses in the UK.
We're the number one provider of credit cards distributed through the four iconic brands of Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland and MBNA. The same brands offer personal loans to individuals and is one of the top unsecured personal loan providers
Through the Transport division (Black Horse and Lex Autolease) we offer vehicle finance and leasing facilities for both personal and business customers. Black Horse is the leading independent provider of non-captive motor finance. Providing point-of-sale finance to over 900,000 end customers supporting them to purchase their vehicle of choice through 4,700 dealerships.
Lex Autolease is the UK's largest vehicle leasing and fleet management provider supporting 140,000 business and consumer customers, from sole traders to large multi-national the largest multinationals. It has a fleet size of over 350,000 vehicles, including cars, vans, mini-buses and emergency vehicles.

You’ll report to a Senior Lawyer.
You’ll provide insightful, commercial advice, and legal expertise to senior business and support partners in the Lex Autolease business.
We'd like you to have technical knowledge and experience in asset finance, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and advising and documenting data protection matters / issues.
We’d like you to use your technical expertise to provide specialised training or mentoring to others.
We'll be looking for you to focus on growing your own capabilities and investing in personal development by identifying and using the many opportunities within the team.
Key Accountabilities:
As a Lawyer in the team you’ll be encouraged to provide advice on:
- the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts including: outsourcing agreements, supplier agreements, customer terms and conditions, bespoke customer contracts, manufacturer contracts, novations and standard form templates;
- reviewing and advising on data flows, data protection, data sharing agreements and cyber incidents;
- digital journeys and customer journeys;
- customer communications;
- product offerings and proof of concepts;
- tenders, requests for information and proposals;
- customer issues, queries, contracts and disputes;
- legal developments (statutory or otherwise);
- ensuring risks are addressed and appropriately raised, reported and shared; and
- training needs of the businesses we support
For this role your focus will be on leasing and issues affecting the Lex Autolease business including customers, suppliers and manufacturers. Part of that will include being the point of contact and building strong partner relationships with the Lex Autolease senior leadership team.
Any knowledge or experience advising on regulated consumer hire and related regulatory requirements would be beneficial, but not crucial.
You'll also deliver legal technical input to influence projects with a significant impact across the Transport business, the Group or a number of business divisions.
You'll also work collectively with lawyers across the Legal Community to provide joined up legal support in the areas of litigation, contentious regulatory, competition, data protection and commercial contracts issues relevant to Lex Autolease.
In addition, you'll:
- work with external legal firms to support the business;
- work in partnership with other Group, Divisional and Business Divisions - in particular Digital Engagement, Finance, Risk, CCOR and Operations;
- help to deliver the engagement model between Legal and our customers; and
- initiate, lead and participate in Legal and Secretariat community projects.
Key Capabilities
At least, a qualified solicitor with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience (or have equivalent legal qualification or experience).
Responsibility for the provision of high quality legal and commercial advice and support to relevant partners on a wide range of their needs.
Sound legal, commercial and risk judgement and understand and build an effective Legal risk management framework.
Build effective working partnerships and consensus, applying positive relationship management and interpersonal skills.
Required to work effectively with senior management and executives across a variety of functions, not only to ensure compliance with legal requirements but also to proactively challenge, advise and influence senior management on legal issues.
Thrive on challenge and be able to balance multiple competing demands through uncertainty or ambiguity.
Positively influence others by role modelling core LBG values and behaviours.
