Wills & Estates Law Clerk/Legal Assistant
Located in midtown Toronto, Shinehoft Law Professional Corporation is a boutique law firm offering estates and family law services.
I am looking to hire a junior to intermediate level law clerk/legal assistant with a minimum of 2 years experience in preparing wills, powers of attorney, and estate administration. Knowledge and experience in family law is an asset.
Pay will be commensurate with experience. Independent Contractor position to start, with a possibility of becoming salaried in the future.
This position is on-site Monday to Friday from either 8:30am-4:30pm or 9:00am-5pm with some flexibility required to meet client needs.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage client files including new client screening, file opening, data entry, and organization;
- Prioritizing and managing all communications and noting deadlines;
- Assist with procedures and the timely preparation, drafting, obtaining review by lawyer and client, and revision and filing, of legal documents such as estate forms, affidavits, releases, reporting letters and procedures, independently with minimal supervision;
- Gathering client information and drafting Wills & Powers of Attorney;
- Assist in gathering financial documents and preparing disclosure briefs and financial statements for family law clients;
- Correspondence and communication with clients, third parties including financial institutions, professional trustees, other lawyers and professionals;
- Preparing packages for signing meetings and attending signing meetings (virtual and in-person) as a witness;
- Remain updated on changes in legislation, court procedures and government policy;
- Managing legal technologies to promote efficiency of the office;
- Maintaining and updating precedents;
- General office administrative duties such as answering calls, calendar and email management, coordinating the flow of documents between the client and office, various billing and banking duties
Key Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma (law clerk, legal administration or legal assistant qualifications are strongly preferred)
- Proficiency with MS Office365 suite and Adobe
- Knowledge of Cosmolex, E-State Planner, Estateably technology is strongly preferred (Divorcemate experience is an asset)
- Superior time management, organizational and prioritization skills with a minimum of 4 years similar experience
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills,
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Excellent English spoken and written skills, and detailed proof-reading
- Ability to follow instruction but also a self-starter who can work independently and as a team player
- Ability to learn quickly, work within tight deadlines and tech savvy work
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $33,320.00-$49,980.00 per year
