We are Lloyd Burns McInnis LLP, a law firm located in Toronto. We are seeking a Law Clerk to join our team on a full-time basis.
This role is perfect for someone who has at least five years of experience working in insurance defence or civil litigation. As a Law Clerk, you will support our lawyers with a variety of tasks: drafting legal documents, reviewing and summarizing documents, conducting research, performing administrative tasks, and more.
This is a hybrid position that may require two days in the office or as needed, with flexibility for remote work for the right candidate.
Scope of Duties:
As a Law Clerk, here are some of the things that you would be tasked with:
- Prepare, draft and complete all necessary litigation documentation such as;Review, summarize, and index records
Summarize medical records into a medical chronology
Analyze and summarize other productions
Ensure files are prepared for Examinations for Discovery, including preparing chronologies and/or medical summaries
Manage and organize productions and medicals
Prepare mediation submission drafts
- Maintain efficient and professional communication with;Clients to obtain documents and information
Plaintiffs’ and co-defendants’ counsel to obtain appropriate productions
Identify, retain and manage communication with appropriate experts
Internal Lloyd Burns McInnis LLP Team members
- Review discovery undertakings, lawyer notes, transcripts, and prepare and obtain Answers to Undertakings
- Prepare for trial, including pre-trial memorandum, organizing for trial, arranging witnesses, pre-hearing and Hearing preparation
- Maintain electronic file correspondence
- Handle Administrative details with respect to calendar management, client meetings, accounting, closing files and docketing
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Has least 5 years of experience as a Law Clerk, with preference for experience in insurance defence litigation in a practice area requiring initiative and drive to move files forward
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention-to-detail
- Is an excellent written and verbal communicator
- Can follow instructions, work independently, and provide meaningful contributions as a member of a fast-paced team
- Comfortable working with Word, Outlook and DMS
- Is a skilled multi-tasker, who loves staying organized and meeting deadlines
- Brings positivity, optimism, trustworthiness, agility and drive
Additional Requirements:
- All LBM employees must have received two vaccinations against COVID-19, and proof of vaccination is required following acceptance of the position. Accommodations are available as needed.
