Lerners is seeking a Law Clerk to support our Health and Employment Law teams in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have two (2) years of experience working in a similar position, working in at least one of the above mentioned practice areas. The primary duties will be supporting a busy partner with these practice areas. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 2 days in office or as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- drafting and preparing Affidavits of Documents and status reports
- preparing motion documents, including hyperlinks and uploads to Caselines
- reviewing, summarizing, and indexing records
- drafting initial letters to physicians and following up for narrative, records, and other requested information
- maintaining communications and updates with defendant physicians including managing scheduling of meetings
- regularly reporting to General Counsel/ clients
- communicating with plaintiffs’ and co-defendant’s counsels to obtain appropriate productions
- managing productions and medical documents in Relativity
- summarizing medical documents into medical chronology
- preparing document summaries using a deep understanding of file issues
- identifying and engaging appropriate experts
- reviewing discovery transcripts and managing undertakings
- preparing for trial including Pre-Trial, Trial, Pre-Hearing, and Hearing preparation
- managing electronic trials
- managing millstones
- drafting closing documents including releases, case summaries, heads of damages, final letters to General Counsel/ Client and defendant physicians
- assisting with quarterly fee estimates
- drafting, serving, and filing pleadings
- setting up surveillance
- maintaining files
- maintaining an effective bring forward system
Qualifications:
- at least two (2) years of experience as a Law Clerk in one of these practice areas or an analogous one such as Insurance Defence
- the ability to work independently and as a part of a fast paced team
- time management, organization skills, and attention to detail
- excellent communication skills
- experience with technology and working in a remote/hybrid environment
- experience with Relativity and Document Management Systems
