Job description

Experienced Multiskilled Groundskeeper required for busy Equestrian Show Centre

Bury Farm is a thriving show centre on the Beds/Bucks border offering a wide range of equestrian events on its purpose-built grounds. The centre has also diversified in 2023 and large scale non-equestrian events have also been planned into this year's schedule including two summer festivals. We presently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and multiskilled groundskeeper to join our existing crew.

As part of our team you will have the opportunity to work on a large range of events from dressage to showjumping shows, demos, clinics, spectator shows and training camps. Your role will involve keeping the centre looking its best, focusing on setting up equine arenas, preparing arena surfaces, maintaining our substantial grounds and equipment. The ideal candidate will also be willing to work on equine shows to assist with all elements of its smooth running, liaising with customers, carrying out ad hoc tasks, assisting with technical issues which arise, and keeping the centre maintained to optimum standards.

To be considered for this role you must have at least 2 years of previous experience maintaining grounds and understanding the requirements of an equine centre. The successful candidate must be prepared to work on their own initiative, to hit show prep deadlines, to take pride in the appearance of the centre, and to maintain equipment to its best possible condition.

You will be required to provide references to verify your previous experience.

Applicants who have 2 years experience and one or more of the below skills will go to the front of the queue...

- Telehandler/forklift operator

- Confidence driving farm machinery including tractors, graders, rollers, muck trailers, and water bowsers

- Mechanical experience to perform basic maintenance checks on farm machinery

- Technical proficiency in the running of music PA systems, electrical hook ups, and equine timing apparatus for show jumping shows.

All crew must have the following attributes:

- Punctuality

- Proactivity, positive and “can do” attitude

- Excellent communication skills and good command of the English Language

- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team

- To be physically fit as some tasks require heavy manual lifting, and show days can be long

- Understand health and safety procedures including heaving lifting procedures

The equestrian centre runs events during the week, across weekends and on some evenings. It is very much a 7-day a week operation and you must therefore be prepared to work sociable and unsociable hours if you wish to join our team.

We recommend that applicants possess their own transport as the centre is not immediately accessible by public transport.

Accommodation may be available as part of the final employment package. Staff are provided with food during show days, and food discounts on non-event days.

28 days holiday and the option to sign up for the company pension scheme are also offered to the successful applicant.

If you are a hard working, punctual and reliable individual who likes physical work in all weathers within the equine events industry please apply to join our friendly team today.

Applicants must be over the age of 18 and have the right to work in the UK.
