Job Description
As a Dairy Team Member, you will be responsible for various tasks related to the care and management of cows during the calving period. Your main duties will include milking cows, moving them from yards to the milking parlour, and possibly assisting with calf rearing. The role involves both manual labour and operating machinery. (Appropriate training will be offered, where required).
Key Responsibilities
- Working alongside the team to ensure the smooth running of daily farm operations.
- Safely and efficiently bringing cows to and from the milking parlour.
- Identifying and flagging any signs of unwell animals or groups and taking appropriate action.
- Monitoring and addressing any welfare requirements that do not meet the standard.
- Maintaining clean and hygienic conditions by raking beds and scraping out waste.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar farm or dairy environment is advantageous but not essential.
- A strong work ethic and a genuine interest in animal welfare and farm operations.
- Ability to handle and work around cows with confidence and care.
- Physical fitness and stamina to cope with the demands of the role.
- Flexibility to work long hours (9.5 hour days) during peak times. Milking starts at 4.30am and runs through till around 10am. Afternoon milking is between 3pm and 6/7pm. Your hours will be within these times.
