Applications are invited for a Laboratory Technician position in the group of Dr Shuzo Sakata in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. This position is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC).
Our group has been investigating state-dependent and cell type-specific information processing in the brain by combining a range of techniques, including in vivo high-density electrophysiological recording, calcium imaging, optogenetics, behavioural analysis and computational approaches.
In this project, entitled “sleep regulation by neuron-astrocyte interactions”, we will investigate how functional interactions between neurons and astrocytes regulate the architecture of the sleep-wake cycle in mice by utilising state-of-the-art molecular and neurophotonic technologies. This project will also work closely with the international consortium, DEEPER, funded from the EU’s Horizon 2020 (https://www.deeperproject.eu/).
This full-time position is expected to assist a wide range of laboratory experiments by working as a team.
Candidates should have an HNC in Biology or related field, together with knowledge of Neuroscience or related fields. Knowledge of rodent neuroanatomy. Experience with immunohistochemistry and fluorescent microscopy will be advantageous.
You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively and an ability to work within a team environment. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication ls, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade.
