Job description

BRE are looking for a number of Apprentices to join our busy Construction Testing Team at BRE on a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship. This Apprenticeship will provide a general background into the skills required in whichever team the successful candidates are appointed into across our Construction teams.

What will the apprentice be doing?

This will give a general background to the skills required in whichever team the successful candidate is appointed to. Training in the technical skills in each team will also be given.

The team works on a large variety of building materials and systems. We have projects that involve testing from microscopic samples, up to full scale mock-ups of built structures and everything in-between so this is an exciting and varied opportunity for you to develop your skills and experience within Construction focused testing and certification.

There will be three main areas of focus which will include:

  • Materials Testing – including stone, membranes, coatings and insulation products
  • Systems Testing – including doors, windows, roofs and Partition walls
  • Structural Load Testing – Including full size mock ups and test samples

The successful candidates will spend time working in all areas of the Construction Testing Team during their apprenticeship, working alongside industry experts.

All roles will include a mixture of hands-on activities such as constructing test structures and desk/office-based work.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship training will take place in house while you are at the workplace. We book once a month training sessions with your allocated tutor. This will be on a platform called Smart Assessor. Here your tutor will go through the modules and units of your course. We also have 6-8 weeks monthly review plans, this will be with yourself, line manager and tutor.

The training you will be undertaking is Laboratory technician Level 3. Once qualified you will have a Laboratory Technician Level 3 qualification.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

For the right apprentice we will be looking to take on as a full time member of staff. We can progress you onto a higher level course and take your career even further!
