Job Title: Laboratory, Technician, Senior Technician or Principal Technician
Work Location: Southampton, UK
Division / Department: Geotechnical Laboratory
Reports to: Laboratory Technical Manager
The successful candidate will be part of the geotechnical laboratory team at Ocean Infinity and will deliver the highest quality, high value data to our clients. The laboratory technician roles will be focused on the execution of laboratory testing, and data processing of same, but other duties will include calibration of equipment, and an active role in the accreditation process, including being audited by external assessors. Applications at all grades (Geo-technician, Senior Geo-technician, and Principal Geo-technician) are welcome at this time.
What will you do:
- Supervising and performing advanced geotechnical laboratory testing, including monotonic triaxial, cyclic triaxial, simple shear, and resonant column testing
- Preparation of samples for testing, ensuring samples are available to promote efficient progression of test programs
- Processing data with the utmost diligence, taking care to ensure data is as accurate as possible
- Performing daily equipment & environmental quality checks throughout the laboratory, informing the Laboratory Technical Manager where anything out of the ordinary or out of specification is found
- Taking an active role during accreditation assessments and performing verification tests when required to do so
- Performing routine equipment calibrations and checks, whether planned or as requested
- Assisting in the training of colleagues as required by the laboratory management
- Ensuring a high level of cleanliness throughout the laboratory facility, and ensuring the equipment is maintained to the highest standard
- Complying with Ocean Infinity’s management system policies, practices, programs, and procedures
- Supporting Ocean Infinity’s environmental and social goals.
Who you are:
- An aptitude for mechanical testing
- Competency in fault finding, repair, calibration, and checks of laboratory test equipment
- An eye for details, and the ability to follow written procedures
- Good practical experience with MS office tools and proficiency with advanced functionality in MS Excel
- Thoughtful, thorough and conscientious
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills
- Driven, proactive and able to work autonomously with little supervision towards the company’s purpose
- Critical thinking and ability to show initiative
- Open and receptive to new and different ideas
- Ability to work well in a team and independently
- Enthusiastic about protecting people and the planet.
Desirable:
- Experience in the execution of geotechnical laboratory testing
