Job description
Laboratory Services Technician – Biopharma / R&D
Role: Full-time, permanent
Location: Harrow, London
Salary: Competitive + bonus + benefits
The Role:
We’re seeking a proactive and well-organised Laboratory Services Technician to ensure the smooth running of our new, state-of-the-art R&D Biopharma labs, from the calibration and maintenance of a wide range of analytical equipment (e.g. balances, autoclaves, centrifuges and incubators) to liaising with suppliers to support system updates or repair and working closely with the Facilities team to monitor our lab utility requirements. Working closely with the wider team, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of all equipment and associated systems within the lab, supporting their full lifecycle – from installation and qualification/validation to calibration, maintenance and repair. You’ll work proactively to develop an effective Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule for all equipment, and coordinate with the teams and relevant suppliers to ensure all activity is completed to deadline, minimising downtime. Where faults do arise, you’ll act as the first point of contact for the team, taking the lead on the troubleshooting, root cause diagnostics and reactive maintenance by liaising with our internal team and external suppliers to restore working order. To maintain the effective running of the department, you’ll complete our equipment files to maintain compliance, support our supplier contract set-up and management, issue full risk assessment / method statements for all relevant activities and ensure any contractors are briefed and supervised in our working practices and HSE requirements. In addition, you’ll oversee and monitor our lab budget (including maintenance and repair costs) and control stock levels of regularly used items and critical spares to provide a cost-effective service and ensure a ready supply is available for the R&D teams.
The Person:
· Experience of working in a busy R&D laboratory with a good understanding of multiple lab equipment and their associated systems along with a good knowledge of GxP requirements.
· Knowledge of current statutory maintenance requirements for a range of lab systems, including electrical installations and pressurised systems.
· Strong practical analytical skills, with the ability to break down complex problems in a logical and structured manner.
· Excellent communication skills (in written and spoken English), able to liaise with all levels of authority and navigate cultural differences with ease.
· Strong organisation skills, able to manage multiple tasks to deadline and maintain a good eye for detail even in a fast-paced and changeable work environment.
· Good IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
· HNC/HND-level qualification or Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in a relevant Engineering or Life Science subject beneficial, but Laboratory experience also considered.
The Rewards:
In return, we offer a competitive salary and rewards package (including 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays, bonus scheme and company pension scheme). Not to mention the opportunity to genuinely make a difference in a new and dynamic role within a progressive and expanding business, at an exciting time of growing international reach.
