This GSK apprenticeship lasts up to four years and gives you the chance to earn while you learn. We are looking for motivated individuals with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn, who are excited to develop practical and problems solving skills. No prior experience is required as you will be given full training.

The Ware Manufacturing site is not an R&D facility but we do manage new products from pilot to full scale manufacturing.

On our 4-year programme you’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.

If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.

Education required:

  • 96 UCAS points including a C or above in Chemistry
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent grade 9-5 (A*-C) including Maths, English Language (not Literature) and a Science

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Expected Start date: September 2023

Duration: 4 years

This Apprenticeship is based at our Ware site in Hertfordshire which is the largest GSK site in the UK. On site we make Respiratory products (for Asthma and COPD), HIV medicines and oncology products for patients all over the world.


Ahead together with tailored training and career development

As a laboratory apprentice you will help to ensure that our products meet strict quality specifications. You will also experience everything from traditional techniques used for raw materials and finished product testing, to the use of bespoke automated equipment.


You will also attend University, where you will work towards a Degree in Chemical Sciences.


Throughout your apprenticeship you will be supported by your line manager, an early talent programme manager as well as an apprentice buddy.

What will you do?

  • Learn a range of analytical methods and how to operate specialist laboratory equipment to test our pharmaceutical products and raw materials
  • Analyse, interpret and investigate data and test results – as well as write reports on your findings.
  • Learn about the process each drug or product follows through from pilot to full scale manufacturing.
  • Get involved in improvement projects.
  • Test and commission new laboratory equipment and processes.
