The Laboratory Medicine Service is spread across four hospital sites within Swansea Bay University Health Board. We are set up as a hub and spoke network of laboratories with the hub laboratory based in Morriston Hospital and spoke laboratories at Singleton Hospital (7 miles from Morriston) and Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend (25 miles from Morriston).
The laboratories are extremely well equipped with Roche, Sysmex and Ortho analysers, and have full accreditation with UKAS, MHRA and IBMS training status.
Fully qualified Senior / Section Manager Biomedical Scientist (BMS) Band 7 - Only candidates that have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma or relevant equivalent experience and hold an appropriate and relevant Masters or level 7 qualification will be considered for the full Section Manager band 7 post. This must be clearly indicated on your application form.
Trainee Senior / Section Manager (BMS) - Applicants who do not hold the full qualifications will be considered for a trainee position and will be subject to Annex 21 of Band 7. It is a condition of appointment to the training position that the required qualifications are achieved. Where situations arise that post holders fail to achieve the required qualifications in the designated timeframes, the service may look to redeploy individuals.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified dynamic Biomedical Scientist to become the Laboratory Medicine Quality Manager for Swansea Bay University Health Board, Laboratory Medicine Service. This is a pivotal role, at the core of all of Laboratory Medicine.
No two days will be the same. With such a large service, there are multiple on-going quality improvement projects taking place at the same time. You will be liaising with multiple staff groups. The role requires multi-tasking, attention to detail and ability to complete projects and reports within tight deadlines.
The Laboratory Medicine Quality Manager will work closely with the Pathology Quality Manager, who will lead on the Quality Management System (QMS). In the role, you will be responsible for the day to day operational activities of the QMS, including maintaining, monitoring, reviewing and presenting quality reports. The individual must possess and maintain a highly developed awareness of the Laboratory Medicine repertoire of assays, equipment, measurement principles and the requirements to comply with and maintain our accreditation status.
You will attend a variety of Quality forums and governance meetings. You will provide training in the QMS to Laboratory Medicine staff. You will need to be proactive and be capable of incorporating these principles into practice.
As a member of the Laboratory Medicine Management Team you will have a key role in the further development of the service.

Singleton Hospital, in the amazing Swansea Bay, has 330 beds and provides a regional midwifery service with neonatal intensive care beds. In addition the West Wales Cancer centre and chemotherapy day units are housed on the Singleton site. Bone marrow transplants are supported here by the clinical haematology service.
Neath Port Talbot Hospital provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and day case services, including specialist services in neuro-rehabilitation, elective orthopaedic surgery.
