- Job Title: Lab Technician – Engineering, Oil & Gas, Industrials

Main Purpose of Role
- Perform sampling of protective coatings in accordance with appropriate approved test procedures, international standards and within customer requirements to ensure effective throughput for ongoing projects.
- Perform round robin analysis ensuring any failures are recorded and investigated with appropriate action taken.
- When necessary, provide flexible support across the other departments providing routine technician activities.
- Undertake daily logging activities of ongoing tests.
- Maintain a clean working environment within the Coatings facility.
- Sample preparation, organisation and delivery for test set-up.
Key Accountabilities
- Report equipment/ instrumentation failure to senior staff member to execute remedial action and thereby ensure continuity of service.
- Maintain organised and auditable systems of work to ensure compliance with UKAS 17025 accreditation.
- Delivery of allocated daily tasks within defined timescales to maximise operational outputs and efficiencies.
- Rudimentary appreciation and understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment to assure minimum quality and health and safety requirements are achieved.
- Assist in booking of samples and raw data entry using SGS Lims system to ensure prompt turnaround on sample analysis.
- Escalate client enquiries to senior staff member for action/ resolution to ensure timely response and client satisfaction.
- Identify any training/ competency issues appropriate to development role and seek assistance from senior staff member to enable improvement and minimise potential short falls in skills/ experience in laboratory resource.

How to be a successful candidate
If you have excellent communications skills both written and verbal, able to work under own initiative, work on performing repetitive work and with a high degree of autonomy & maturity then this is the role for you.
Will need experience of working within a laboratory environment or industries related to petro-chemical industry. Good to have experience with paints, coating, or polymers. Or experience of practical chemistry or related science subject. Essential to have GCSE Science/Mathematics/English, or equivalent, grades A to C. Desirable to have degree or equivalent - i.e. BSc/HNC/HND in either polymer science, chemistry, mechanical engineer, corrosion engineering.
