SRUC Veterinary Services contributes to SRUC’s work across education, research and commercial services providing diagnostic services to veterinary practices, Health Schemes for livestock farmers and disease surveillance for the livestock farming industry on behalf of the Scottish Government. Based in the Veterinary and Analytical Laboratory (VAL) at Pentlands Science Park, VSA is a large team providing the link between SRUC Veterinary Service Disease Surveillance hubs around the county, the testing laboratories and our customers. The team at VSA receives and registers samples and prepares them for testing by the scientific teams within VAL. Samples from other SRUC VS teams at the Disease Surveillance hubs and the Health Schemes team are also received and prepared by VSA. In order to manage and track the 0.75 million blood samples received per year VSA uses robotic processing.
The main purpose of this role is to prepare and process samples for internal labs and external service providers, couriering the samples and general administrative duties.
Duties include:
The role includes the following
- Receipt of incoming samples
- Dealing with internal and external customer queries
- Registering samples and result entry into our database
- Processing of samples including robotic processing
- Administrative support
- Driving to collect samples from local vet practices
- Use of Microsoft applications
Responsibilities (Therefore answerable for actions.)
- Requirement to follow SOPs and lab quality assurance procedures
- Requirement to follow Health & Safety procedures
- Ensuring all daily work is complete and samples are processed
- Providing cover in other areas of VSA as directed
