Apprentice Laboratory Technician - Burton upon Trent

The role
As an Apprentice Laboratory Technician, you’ll be undertaking the testing and analysis of soils, waters, leachates, effluents, industrial wastes, and marine sediments from SOCOTEC accredited laboratories. The tests will deliver highest quality testing services, informing clients towards more sustainable and intelligent construction, infrastructure, and energy solutions.
To always maintain good laboratory practice, following methods, standard operating procedures, local rules and regulations, maintain equipment and safe working procedures.- To be aware of and conform to the Laboratory Quality System, specifically UKAS (ISO17025) and MCERTS requirements.
- To ensure compliance with the Health and Safety requirements of the department, ensuring that the correct PPE and other safety equipment are always used, accidents and incidents are minimised, and any non-conformances are reported in a timely manner through the correct procedures.
- To update and maintain all work records ensuring they are completed in an appropriate manner, and both filed and stored correctly.
- To project a professional, courteous image and always support the business culture and codes of practice.
- To embrace and actively participate in positive change, being responsible for your own development within the business.
- To adhere to and support the Line Manager in attaining the production and quality targets of the department.
About you
We are looking for you to develop in to the role by undertaking an agreed structured training program of study in house, so that in time you will develop an understanding and knowledge of a wide range of preparation and analysis techniques in the laboratory environment.
- Good IT skills - Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Excel.
- Interested in science and laboratory testing
- Maintain good laboratory practice at all times, following methods, standard operating procedures, local rules and regulations, maintain equipment and safe working procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety requirements of the department at all times.
- Committed to self-development
- 3 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a Science
Things to consider
Working with acids, potential asbestos samples and environmental levels of radioactivity.
Certain amount of manual lifting and moving as part of the role
