Title: Laboratory Technician
Full/Part Time: Full time
Reports to: Based in Burgess Hill
Hours: Rotational shift work, to include on call periods where sample processing is required covering both weekends and evenings to be agreed in advance and may change
Responsible to: Laboratory Manager/Operations Manager
Salary: £17,000 to £21,000 depending on experience
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): At employers discretion
Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To test and process samples in a timely manner and to standards set out by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licence requirements
- To work within strict guidelines in our HTA licensed laboratory
- To work at all times in compliance with current legislation
- Must be able to work in a GLP/GMP compliant laboratory using CAT A/B cleanroom technology
- Must be able to work using extreme aseptic technique, being acutely aware of sterility and contamination
- To undertake all testing and compliance analysis of samples processed to the highest standards
- To undertake validation and on-going assessment of processing samples
- To maintain and review processing procedures to ensure compliance with current legislation
- To maintain (and prove) an active knowledge of current legislation to ensure compliance at all times
- To assist in the maintenance of the company database for the use of stem cells and therapeutic applications
- To undertake and provide evidence of CPD in line with legal requirements and to ensure the highest standards are maintained
- To have a sound and up to date knowledge of stem cell technology so as to provide information in response to customer queries
- To overview peers work and critically assess for compliance
- To maintain laboratory stock levels for efficient processing of samples in accordance with workload and adjust if necessary
- To ensure environmental monitoring is carried out and that the highest levels of cleanliness are constantly maintained in the laboratory
Qualifications and Key Skill Required:
- Previous and/or recent laboratory experience is preferred but not essential, as training will be given
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and IT
- Common sense and problem solving essential
- Must be able to work alone in the laboratory (previous laboratory lone working ideal although not essential)
- Experience of aseptic technique and cleanroom working (not essential but highly desirable)
- Able to undertake microbiology testing on samples including running control
- Must be trustworthy, dedicated and reliable
- Good level of written and spoken English
- Geographical proximity to Burgess Hill (20 miles)
- Must be vaccinated against Hepatitis B before starting job (proof required)
- Understanding of GLP, GMP and deviation reporting
- High personal, ethical and moral standards
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise work and work on own initiative
- Ability and willingness to learn

- Must have driving license and own vehicle
In this post you will report directly to the Laboratory Manager. As a laboratory technician at Cells4Life you will work closely with a small team of other technical and office staff, all highly dedicated to the company. You will be expected to integrate with the team. Furthermore, you will be the technical source of information and you will liaise with couriers and converse with customers and healthcare personnel.
All processes and practices are thoroughly outlined and accessible in constantly updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in electronic and paper format. Compliance with the European Union Tissue and Cells Directive (EUTCD), the United Kingdoms’ Human Tissue Act (UK HTA) and associated Directions, International Standards of Organisation (ISO) 9000, and principles and practices of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) are expected at all times in all aspects of the company.
