Trainee Asbestos Bulk & Laboratory Analyst

As part of the continued growth of our Asbestos Surveying Consultancy we are seeking candidates to fill the role of Trainee Asbestos Bulk & Laboratory Analyst within our Head Office (Truro). You’ll be helping our successful operations team to analyse asbestos samples and you’ll be given excellent training at every step of the way. On top of the starting salary, you’ll also share in our profits twice a year and have the opportunity to start your pension. We’ll also contribute to it, too. The candidate must:
· Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Be proficient working with MS Office, with specific competence in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook (and ideally Visio).
· Be enthusiastic, dedicated and hardworking.
· Be a quick learner with a keen attention to detail.
· Be able to work in a high paced and pressured environment.
· Be able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
· Be flexible regarding hours of work, to cope with periods of high demand.
· Hold a Full UK Driver’s License
· Preferably a minimum of 1 year experience in the analysis of asbestos samples.
· Relevant experience in asbestos bulk analysis preferred.
· Experience using Alpha Tracker or a similar asbestos management software (training to be provided)
· Undertake daily quality checks.
· Undertake analysis of bulk samples for the presence of Asbestos in accordance with UKAS accreditation and HSG248.
Core Responsibilities
· Receiving and appropriately logging samples received by the laboratory on Alpha Tracker.
· Accurately analyse and report on the fibre content of samples submitted by our team of Surveyors.
· Uploading accurate results on to Alpha Tracker database
· Ensuring appropriate storage and retention of samples.
· Generation of reports and report checking
· To be up to date with asbestos and other relevant legislation, guidance and industry best practice including UKAS accreditation and quality management.
· To comply with the quality management system (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) including participating in the internal quality assurance and audit programme along with external QC schemes (AIMS).
· Following all internal procedures and policies, adhering to strict Health and Safety requirements.
· Other duties as required to help and support the business growth.
Personal Responsibilities
· Working a 40 hour week but also being flexible to cope with periods of high demand.
· Continue to learn and develop.
· To maintain a smart standard of dress as required by any person representing the company.
- Professional company image through in-person and phone interaction.
· In addition to these typical duties, may perform other duties as assigned and required.
· Paid overtime is available during peak times and busy periods.
Education and Qualifications
· Secondary education, ideally GCSE's grade 'C' and above in Maths, English and Science are desirable (but not essential).
Hours & Salary
· Salary that commences from £18,500 - £20,000 with excellent progression prospects on completion of training
