About the role
The Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) is a unique flagship institution, at the University of Oxford, and represents a dynamic and collaborative research environment, with 15-20 research groups and at full capacity 240 research staff investigating how understanding normal development can inform on strategies to regenerate diseased or injured tissues. Our interests span across three research themes: cardiovascular science, neuroscience and immunology, capturing three of the major organ systems targeted by non-communicable diseases.
We are looking to recruit a Laboratory Manager and Institute Safety Officer to support the optimal day to day running of the laboratories within the IMS-Tetsuya Nakamura building, which houses both IDRM and partner groups from a number of Medical Sciences Division departments.
You will be part of the IDRM Building Services Team which is part of the Department of Paediatrics. The team consists of Reception, Goods In and Laboratory Support staff and will be led by the Building and Facilities Manager (BFM).
You will establish yourself as the local expert and work with senior staff to take the lead in the Health and Safety and Laboratory Management operation throughout the building. The post holder will provide central support for all groups within the building, ensuring that relevant policies, procedures and risk assessments are in place and maintained. You will also have your own key areas of responsibility i.e. ultra-low temperature and cryogenic storage.
You will have the opportunity to optimise the building and laboratory systems, and you will be expected to continue with the development and improvement of procedures, processes and risk assessments.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have extensive experience in Safety and Laboratory Management, be organised, an excellent communicator, highly motivated, flexible and able to develop the role to meet the requirements of the building. This is a broad ranging role and training will be provided.
