Knowledge Exchange Associate: Schools and Urban Plantings Sheffield, England

University of Sheffield
Full Time Sheffield, England 29762 - 34314 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield is the only independent department in the field within the UK. We have an international reputation and track record of excellence in research, innovation and education in the planning, design and management of landscapes. The Department is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and contributes to the Faculty research agendas of Health and Wellbeing, Sustainable Futures and Inclusive Society. This in turn sits within the wider university Vision, organised under its four pillars of research, innovation, education and one university.

The department’s five year vision is ’to guide the creative stewardship of our planet to protect our own health’ (https://unfccc.int/climate-action/un-global-climate-action-awards/planetary-health). To do this we will continue to address the global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and landscape justice and support the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals across the global north and south through specific departmental themes: currently ‘Hopeful Greener Futures’ and ‘Equality Matters’. Our academic staff work locally, nationally and globally to take forward this agenda working, not only by influencing our current students, but also through research, impact and innovation collaborating with alumni, and external partners including communities, policy makers, government departments, non-governmental organisations, charities and businesses.

As part of this vision we are seeking to appoint a Knowledge Exchange Associate who will work with Professor Ross Cameron and other academics/practitioners to engage with Schools and exchange information on the value or urban plants & plantings.

The post is for 6 months and will require liaison and co-production working, with a number of stakeholders, primarily Sheffield Botanical Gardens, but also potentially directly with some Sheffield schools, the Department of Education and Geography SouthWest (who generate educational support packages for A-level students). Although based in the Department of Landscape Architecture you will work with colleagues from the School of Biosciences, the School of Education, the Urban Institute and the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre.

You should have an interest in plants and environmental issues/education, be well-organized and a super communicator. Previous experience of children’s outdoor environments would be useful.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
