Note: This is a full-time position directly reporting to the Centre Director; pay rate as agreed, based on experience, expertise, and applicable education.
The primary responsibility of the Kitchen Coordinator is to assist in overseeing all kitchen operations, including supervising, training, coordinating all related culinary activities, and managing food costs, and inventory levels, while meeting the dietary needs of students. Other responsibilities include: procuring donations, meeting budget, preparing meals and ensuring the sanitation of work area in adherence with health and safety regulations, food preparation standards, WHMIS and company policies and procedures.

Teen Challenge Canada Inc. operates 12-month in-residence alcohol and drug addiction rehabilitation programs, for adults 18+ years, with centres located in Alberta, Atlantic Canada, Saskatchewan and Ontario. We offer help and hope to those struggling with alcoholism and/or addiction to other drugs through a proven faith-based program. Those struggling with addiction, their family and friends, begin their restoration at Teen Challenge.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop a strong kitchen team comprised of staff, students and volunteers, within a kitchen environment
- Creating recipes and adhere to safety procedures and regulations of food preparation
- Work efficiently and effectively to gather, wash, cut, season, cook, prepare and store quality ingredients, and ensure the sanitation of work area in adherence with Public Health regulations
- Work closely alongside other non-profits to procure new donations and purchase food to ensure meals can be made on a targeted budget
- Schedule kitchen staff in accordance with business demands and trends
- Oversee petty cash accounts and monthly reconciliation related to monthly kitchen budget
- Create and implement the student menu and meal plan in adherence with the Canadian Food Guide to ensure that basic dietary requirements are met on a daily basis, and special attention is given to food allergies and sensitivities
- Schedule and coordinate all food and meal preparations and requests for special events and/or catering opportunities
- Order appropriate chemicals and materials, and ensure inventory lists are up-to-date and food is fully stocked, while overseeing the safe storage and disposal of food and beverages
- Receive incoming donations based upon determined viability
- Oversee temperature check of food, fridges, freezers and dishwasher
- Adhere to and enforce all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, WHMIS and company policies and procedures
- Be continuously aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the departmental dress code
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas, cleaning the kitchen equipment carefully and safely to prevent damage or injury
