Amazing animal care apprenticeship vacancy with KEITS in Wetherby working in a kennel and cattery environment as well as lovely horses. Learn about all animal husbandry needs whilst being in a paid full time position and gaining your apprenticeship qualification. We offer boarding to cats, dogs and small animals too! Daily tasks:
- Monitoring and recording health, behaviour, food, and water intake.
- Feeding all dogs/cats on site and administering medication if needed.
- Introducing animals to kennels
- Checking bedding for soiling and changing if required.
- Cleaning kennel, changing water, removing used food bowls.
- Maintaining outside exercise areas in between dogs.
- Using the correct equipment for individual dogs when taking for offsite walks.
- Deep cleaning of kennel for change of occupancy.
- Providing enrichment for dogs in our care.
- Bathing animals if required.
- Assisting in day care and monitoring the behaviour of dogs including providing enrichment
- Keeping the property tidy and maintained.
- Assess each cats welfare and report any concerns to manager
- Caring for the horses that also live on site

Qualifications
- Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 in Animal Care
- Previous handling of cats/dogs/ small animals would be desirable as this is a hands-on role dealing with all temperaments/age’s of animals.

Training
- Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
- The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard.
- The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
- The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

- This is a very physical job consisting of cleaning kennels, feeding dogs, providing enrichment, clearing waste and lead walking dogs twice a day in all weather conditions. (during busy times you can walk up to 10miles in a day) you will be required to help with the maintenance of the kennels at times i.e. painting, grass cutting, hedge trimming, jet washing.
