Practical Dog Training, Kennels & Cattery (PDTKC) - Boarding Kennels, Cattery and Training Services

Job description

Kennel/cattery workers care for dogs and cats within our care. You will need to be confident in handling animals and be able to cope with the physical demands of the job, such as cleaning out kennels and cat pens and exercising/walking dogs.

Your day-to-day work could include:

• Preparing food and feeding (including special diets)
• Giving animals tablets or medicine (if required)
• Brushing/Cleaning animals
• Exercising dogs through play or walks
• Keeping kennels/cattery clean and hygienic, changing bedding, hosing/sweeping out and removing waste.
• Making sure cats have facilities in their pens for exercise e.g. toys, etc.
• Greeting visitors/clients and showing them around
• Good communication skills
• Keeping all areas around the kennels/cattery clean and tidy

You will need to have a genuine passion for animals and be committed to promoting their care and welfare,

• be caring and patient
• Reliable and able to act on own initiative
• Be able to calm anxious and nervous animals
• Good stamina and fitness for physical tasks
• Have good communication skills
• You should be good at working in a team but equally be able to work well on your own.

Working conditions

The work is physically demanding and will/can involve working outside in all weathers.

Qualifications and training

Animal Care qualification or experience

Job Types: Temp to perm, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 10 months

Salary: £10.42 per hour
