The Service
The primary purpose of Highways & Technical Services is to manage, maintain and improve infrastructure, including highways, flood defences and the coast, for the benefit of those who choose to live, work, visit and invest in Northumberland.
The primary function of the Design Team is the design, project management and delivery of our own construction and maintenance schemes for highways and highway structures and those for external clients. With an annual LTP budget of £18M, internal schemes range from the design of major new highways and highway bridges and structures to the strengthening and refurbishment of existing bridges. We manage and design solutions for unstable slopes and retaining structures and engineered slopes. Some recent and ongoing projects include the £30m Morpeth Northern Bypass, the £7m Union Chain Bridge and the £9m Todstead Landslip.

The role
We are looking for candidates to fill posts of Assistant CAD Technician. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the Senior CAD Technician you will be involved in:
- Production of drawings using CAD Software
- Reading and extracting information from drawings, schedules and specification
- Design and detailing of highways and highway structures for new build and maintenance schemes.
- Site measurements, surveys and inspections.
- Production of technical reports.
- Responding to client requests for information.
- Day-to-day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the office.
- Attending team meetings with both internal and external disciplines.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- ONC / OND / BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering or similar
- Broad knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing together with some appreciation of one or more of: Reinforced Concrete Detailing, Steelwork Detailing, Highway Detailing
- Experience in delivering projects to successfully achieve set objectives.
