BBC Cymru Wales is the nation's leading provider of news across digital platforms, television and radio. We are looking for a Junior Production Manager who will work closely with all departments across the newsroom supporting them with their production planning needs in a demanding and ever changing environment. The role is part of the Stories team within the newsroom and is managed by the Deputy Managing Editor on a daily basis. Although the role is newsroom based – you are able to work at home for a part of the week if required. It is a fixed term contract/attachment until the end of June.
This role will mean working with TV, radio and digital productions across the newsroom in both languages. You will be responsible for helping programmes to plan production events, including foreign deployments, identifying and sourcing appropriate resource and location requirements. You will also be involved in the day to day running of the newsroom, supporting teams with their production planning as required. You will need experience of BBC systems including finance, accommodation, and travel booking systems. A good knowledge and understanding of excel would also be beneficial. You will support the newsroom with its staff training requirements, and be involved in work placements in the newsroom, internally and externally. You will also support technology refresh within the newsroom, alongside the Visual Journalism team.
You will have excellent communication skills and will thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment - with the ability to do your best work against tight deadlines. You will have experience of contributing to and delivering productions across a range of output or genres, on time and on budget. You will have excellent project management skills and be able to juggle conflicting priorities with the support of the deputy managing editor. You will need experience on BBC systems and supporting the implementation of new technologies. You will need to show that you can work collaboratively with others and contribute to and help foster a culture in the newsroom that always promotes diversity and inclusion. You need to be able to work collaboratively and be an effective communicator. The newsroom can be a challenging environment, but it is also a very rewarding and exciting one, with lots of opportunities so a can-do attitude is a must for this role.
