JUNIOR or TRAINEE QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Coventry
Are you a Junior or Trainee QS looking for your next permanent position?
Salary - From £22,000 to £27,000 depending on experience (will be paid pro-rata if day release for study needed)
40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Can you answer `Yes` to the following:
1. Do you have a Quantity Surveying education such as HNC/D or a Degree in Quantity Surveying?
2. Are you working towards a Quantity Surveying qualification. Day Release can be offered which will allow you to complete your studies and work part-time.
3. Do you have a basic understanding JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) and NEC (New Engineering Contract) contracts, (which you will have covered in your Quantity Surveying Studies)
4. Do you have a very good understanding of MS Excel – as the work involves daily use of MS Excel
5. Are you within commutable distance to our offices - currently located in the Coventry area.

This is a Junior/Entry Level Position, so we do not expect you to have full and varied experience in Quantity Surveying. All training and experience shall be provided.

The Opportunity
My client is operating within the construction & manufacturing sector, providing affordable, stylish, and quality modular new build products which are manufactured in our factories and delivered to site.
Their products are on the edge of leading technology, that use high performing insulated walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors, combined with Heat Pumps & Solar PV Panels to ensure that energy costs within these units are kept at a minimum, with “Net Zero” being the target.
As one of the largest companies operating in their sector, my client is currently operating in two factories, and increasing to three factories by June 2023.
Following rapid growth, our client is currently seeking a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to expand the clients Quantity Surveying function in the business.
It is an opportunity for a Junior Level Quantity Surveyor to join, learn the business and be fully trained in the Quantity Surveying role.
Responsibilities:
You will be working on New Build Modular Housing Projects for Main Contracting Clients and/or directly for Local Councils/Housing Associations and/or other Public Sector clients. Our client generally builds modular residential units for these clients.
You will be supporting a Senior Quantity Surveyor in the Commercial Management of those projects.
Main duties will be:
1. Assist in the preparation of the Company’s Application for Payments.
- Liaise with the Factory/Manufacturing Leads, and the Project Management Teams to determine the valuation of works completed.
- Liaise with the Procurement Department to quantify the new materials that have been delivered in the month for assessment and inclusion in the application for payment.
- Submission of Application for Payment, Vesting Certificates, and Invoices to the client/s.
2. Assist in the Production and Issuance of Variations / Compensation Events.
- Learn about the Standard Forms of Contract/s, such as JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) and NEC (New Engineering Contract)
- Understand our technical work scope/specification/s contained within contracts.
- When the Client, or their representatives instruct us to change the scope of works, you will assist in the development of the correct commercial notice to the client
- Liaison with Design, Procurement, and Project Management Teams to try and extract an understanding of what work is involved and how much that work is valued at in monetary terms.
- Produce a valuation of those works for formal submission to the Client.
3. Internal Financial Reporting
- You will assist in the production of Internal financial information to determine the financial commercial position on projects.
4. Assist in the Negotiation of new contracts.
- You will assist the Senior QS in the review of Contract Terms & Conditions
- You will assist the Senior QS in the production and/or amendment of Contract Terms & Conditions, Contract Specifications.
- You will assist in the production of a Schedule of Rates
5. Other Commercial Duties
- You will assist in the preparation of collateral warranties.
- You will draft the Vesting Certificates
- You will assist in the production of Final Accounts
